Founder of Time Commons

Since 1996, Michael Suh has maintained a long-term independent practice across art, public space, writing and research.

His work explores the relationships between time, everyday life, publicness and technology through curatorial practice, writing, research and spatial experimentation.

Time Commons has gradually emerged from this ongoing practice as a platform connecting living, making, research and public practice.

Timeline

1996

Began an independent practice that continues today.

2003–2005

Conducted systematic research on Kinetic Art, proposing “time as visible structure” as an approach to understanding artistic practice.

2005–2008

Beijing Olympic Public Sculpture Programme.

2008

Participated in the Digital Stone Project.

2010–

Initiated vibrARTion™, an ongoing platform for international curatorial practice and cross-cultural collaboration.

2011–2016

Curated Forms of the Formless, a series of international contemporary art exhibitions presented in Germany, Denmark, Switzerland and China.

2013–2018

Served as Executive Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Beijing (MoCA Beijing).

2018–

Joined Vancouver Biennale as Senior Curator.

2020–

Founded the Asia Art Research Center (A-ARC).

2024–

Time Commons was formally articulated and launched as a long-term platform for practice.
