Sealing a Jar for Our Time — Dedicated to the Future

On August 16, the Sealtan Project was officially launched at the Four Seasons Ballroom of Four Seasons Hotel Beijing.

Under the theme “Seal a jar for this era — and deliver it to the future”, the gathering brought together artists, curators, scholars, and friends from across the art community.

During the event, participants signed the jar, inscribed witness statements, and engaged in discussions around the project’s core methodologies — including the Three Principles of Sealtan Writing and the Seven Criteria for Artist Case Studies.

The ceremony was not only a gathering, but also the opening gesture of a growing art history in action.

Notable witnesses included:

Sui Jianguo, Huo Boyang, Zhang Yongjian, Zhang Wei, Tan Xun, Qin Chong, Wang Xinggang, Zhang Jianhua, Tang Ran, Wang Jianxing, Su Ling, Zhao Qiong, He Minting, Robert Mason, among others.

The Sealtan Project adopts “sealing” as a unique method for art-historical writing, a practice that will continue through 2035.

Each sealed jar represents a judgment made for its time — one that can be reopened, re-read, and reactivated in the future.
